Municipal Fiber Expansion

Our Impact
JDH delivered a turnkey fiber optic expansion that extended critical connectivity to a new major midwest city training facility, increasing network capacity and supporting future growth. By completing the project on time and within budget despite challenging underground conditions, our team enabled the City to transition from third-party connections to owned infrastructure. This project highlights JDH’s ability to execute full-scope fiber construction in complex, high-traffic environments while preparing clients for long-term network scalability.
What We Did
- Turnkey Fiber Network Construction
- Conduit Installation (Underground)
- Fiber Optic Cable Installation
- Open Excavation in Rock Conditions
- Utility Coordination & Locating Support
- Traffic & Pedestrian Control Coordination
- Segmented Construction Planning
- Network Extension Integration
- Site Restoration
- Project Management
- Safety & Quality Compliance

Additional Project Information
This fiber extension project in a major midwest city, involved approximately 1.5 miles of new underground conduit and fiber installation to connect an existing network to a new city-owned training facility. The route traversed a busy corridor with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, dense existing utilities, and intermittent rock conditions requiring open excavation. JDH mitigated disruption by constructing the route in smaller segments and coordinating closely with property owners and utility stakeholders to address challenges such as removed locate flags. The completed network provides expanded capacity for future growth and supports the City’s transition to municipally controlled connectivity, with additional expansions already planned.
