Powering Infrastructure From The Ground Up

Our Impact
JDH Contracting successfully completed the below-grade scope for a greenfield substation project in Charlestown, Indiana. What began as an undeveloped farm field was efficiently transformed into a fully prepared substation site capable of supporting the growing industrial demands of the surrounding area.
This project marked JDH Contracting’s first direct substation scope for the client. While JDH has extensive experience performing transmission line foundation work, this opportunity represented an expansion of services into their substation construction.
The project was a collaborative effort between a combined utility substation, and JDH’s successful execution further demonstrated its capability to deliver high-quality results across a broader range of energy infrastructure projects.
What We Did
- Site Grading
- Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Implementation
- Retention Pond Construction
- Drilled Foundations
- Slab Foundations
- Grounding Grid Installation
- Trenwa Installation
- Conduit Installation
- Perimeter Fencing
- Final Grading
- Seeding & Straw Stabilization

Additional Project Information
Leveraging industry-leading GPS grading technology, JDH Contracting was able to efficiently bring the site to grade, establishing proper drainage and allowing water to shed effectively. This was critical in maintaining progress and enabling foundation construction to proceed despite challenging site conditions.
The project was a collaborative effort between JDH’s Kentucky and Indiana branches, ensuring the right combination of regional expertise and resources were applied throughout execution.
Given the accelerated nature of the project, driven by increasing power grid demands, JDH worked in close coordination with project engineers, adapting to evolving plans and advancing work in phased sequences. This level of collaboration allowed for continuous progress and timely completion of key milestones during active construction.
